Refining a weapon or armour takes the equivalent Enchancement Powder. The amount of Powder needed is the same as the refined lvl of the piece you're trying to upgrade to, as in, for +1 one powder, +2 two powders, etc
Weapons and Armour do not break while refining, they can however, revert back to +0 if attempting to refine it further than +5, unless you use a cash shop protecting scroll.
